Senior Quantity Surveyor

Our client, a leading fit-out contractor, currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor in the Glasgow area.

Overall job purpose

To support the Commercial Manager in the management of all commercial issues; including the management and development of quantity surveyors and trainee/assistant surveyors.
To take commercial responsibility for contract performance across the business unit/division to maximise both turnover and profitability
To build positive relationships and influence at senior level both internally and with clients
Resolving complex contractual disputes and seeking to raise commercial awareness within the business unit
To encourage, mentor, and coach members of the surveying team


Circa 47-50k per annum

Liaising directly with design teams and client representatives in preparation of tender
Commence all relevant work in relation to receipt of a tender enquiry such as analysing the project, breaking out subcontractor and supplier enquiries, selecting suitable subcontractors and suppliers
Undertake site surveys to analyse any potential risks and highlight as appropriate
Preparation of pricing documents and the formatting of these documents into the standard layout
Management of subcontracts, main contracts, valuations and CTV's through to final accounts including preparation and placement of subcontract orders which creates a legally binding contract
Preparation and analysis of commercial reports; cash flow and monthly forecast sheets, accruals and CTV's/CVR's for review with Commercial Manager and contracts team
Responsible for the overall financial control of the contract; controlling and monitoring any contract charges and variations against financial plans


Applying strong presentation and communication skills when liaising with clients and consultants
Using strong selling, negotiation and influencing skills when dealing with clients and consultants to foster long lasting client relationships
Liaising directly with design teams and client representatives to understand client requirements
Developing and maintaining strong network and account management relationships
Continually seeking opportunities to enhance relationships and service provision to clients, both internal and external


Acting as a first point of contact for direct reports to offer support and advice
Ensuring compliance with all company process and procedures to support the overall success of the business unit/division
Managing performance, team conflict and communication issues where necessary
Management of resources for each project based on experience and competency
Escalating areas of underperformance and onset risks to the Commercial Manager
Chairing and managing effective meetings; cascade team meetings, commercial/op meetings, where necessary
