The Workers’ Educational Association is a charity and the UK’s largest voluntary sector provider of adult education.  We are a charity with a strong sense of social purpose, dedicated to bringing great teaching into the heart of local communities.  All our educational provision is developed with this in mind and our courses can be set up almost anywhere – for example in clubs, community centres, village halls, schools, pubs or where people work.

The WEA are seeking a Depute Director to take lead responsibility for the design, development delivery and quality of its education provision. The Depute Director will lead manage and support three Education Development Managers and all the education staff to deliver life changing learning programmes that are high quality, educationally excellent and ensures that the WEA makes the greatest possible impact with people and communities across Scotland.

The Depute Director will have a high profile role throughout Scotland representing the WEA on a number of strategic partnerships and being the lead contact with Education Scotland, the SQA, government agencies and WEA funders. They will also deputise for and represent the Interim Director for the WEA in Scotland as and when necessary and liaise with a number of WEA partners including local authorities, trade unions, voluntary and community organisations and other education providers

The Depute Director will also be responsible and accountable for education targets, budgets, performance monitoring and compliance. They will also work with the Interim Director and the Business Development Manager to target and identify opportunities to grow and develop the WEA and to look for new ways to improve organisational sustainability through greater diversification of income streams.
