HMP Addiewell are currently recruiting for a Music Instructor.

You will be required to provide and promote a quality learning service supporting Prisoners to access the curriculum and develop their capacity to succeed in life. You will deliver a range of qualifications whilst assessing against the recognised national standards. You will raise Prisoner attainment promoting achievement and inclusion.

HMP Addiewell is a learning prison, with a strong and concerted focus on learning not to reoffend, relevant skills training and employability and we work with all areas of the wider community to ensure prisoners have the best possible chance of leading positive lives following release. Addiewell opened in 2008 and has become an integral part of the Scottish Prison Service estate earning much praise from (amongst others) HMCIP, for its innovation, use of technology, strong partnership working as well as its “can do†culture.

Sodexo Justice Services delivers custodial and community rehabilitation services that challenge offending behaviour, protect the public and offer individuals the opportunity to change their lives for the better. We deliver the total operation of five prisons within England, Scotland and Wales and own six Community Rehabilitation Companies in partnership with crime reduction charity Nacro.

Package description

Circa £22,000  plus excellent benefits (including free meals and parking, group discount schemes and pension with 28 days holiday)

Evening and weekend work will be required

Main responsibilities

 

  • Plan and deliver learning / educational activities as directed to national standards and maintain appropriate safety for Prisoners within the learning area.
  • Plan the assessment process with Tutors and Prisoners - observe, record assessment, feedback and complete all documentation.
  • Ensure learner retention is at the highest possible levels.
  • Examine candidates’ portfolios of evidence and ensure that significant milestones are met in preparation for assessment.
  • Provide class cover as directed by the Line Manager.
  • Provide regular feedback to prisoners and give group and individual support to enable them to achieve the maximum learning benefit from their chosen activity.
  • Be an active member of the Instructor team, attend staff development, team and programme meetings as required.
  • Complete relevant paperwork and reports as required by your Line Manager and awarding bodies.
  • Order and maintain adequate learning supplies and resources as required to deliver effective learning provision

Ideal candidate

  • Proven experience in a training environment.
  • A relevant teaching qualification / Appropriate Learning & Development qualification up to SCQF level 7.
  • Demonstrable experience of the SQA framework or of an Industry or Educational Standard.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • High level of organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation
