Job title: Student Support Worker
Responsible to: Schools Liaison Co-ordinator
The main purpose of the post is to provide the highest standards of professional support to students attending college through the More Choices, More Chances Initiative.
The Student Support Worker will work flexibly as part of a staff team in the identification of students’ needs and support for the completion of appropriate college programmes.
Working with students
Act as ‘first point of contact’ for More Choices, More Chances students, referred by partnership Education Authorities
Provide direct practical help, support and guidance to students on relevant Faculty / Unit Programmes
Build positive relationships with students, staff, external agencies, and employers
Assist with the identification of issues and concerns which may affect students’ retention and progression and facilitate solutions to these challenges in conjunction with appropriate staff members.
Working with lecturing staff
Participate in section/Faculty/Unit meetings as required
Fulfil clerical and administrative tasks as identified by the Line Manager
Represent the College at partnership meetings and/or marketing events as required
Cascade relevant information to Faculties/Units.
Liaise with external agencies and employers on behalf of students
Identify issues and concerns which may affect the smooth running of programmes and bring this to the attention of senior lecturers and Heads of Faculties/Units
Participate in identified staff development and training programmes
Understand issues of confidentiality in relation to the nature of the work undertaken and ensuring that this confidentiality is maintained
Be aware of Health and Safety, Child Protection and Disclosure Scotland Policies and understand own responsibilities within relevant procedures of the aforementioned
Assist with the completion of all appropriate MCMC documentation and Scottish Funding Council returns
Contribute to the preparation of marketing materials, correspondence.
