Deans Primary serves the community of Deans in the north Livingston area. The local area is currently under development due to renovation of existing houses, demolition of housing and the redevelopment of a new estate. This has impacted on the roll of the school and this is anticipated to rise once the building work commences. The school has a current roll of 242 pupils and a 50/40 nursery. The management structure consists of an HT, DHT and PT. This session the school has 10 mainstream classes with a 0.5 nurture provision, and a visiting PE specialist. There are five pupil support workers who support learning across the stages.
The school has a successful breakfast club which is well attended with approximately 55 pupils each session, and also runs a variety of clubs at lunchtime and after school, such as, homework, football, basketball, etc.
The school has strong links with its cluster schools, the local church and local businesses. The school has an active parent council who work tirelessly to support the pupils and staff. They are involved in and organise fund raising events, rotas for parent helpers and support for excursions. This support and positive interactions enhances the learning provision for pupils.
The school has had some decoration to brighten the learning environment for pupils and a newly designed garden area to enrich the outdoor learning opportunities. The school has collaborated with parents and local businesses to design and create a new garden area and an eco-vegetable garden that links with its health and wellbeing curriculum.
