Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 13 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

Saltersgate School is situated within the Dalkeith Schools Community Campus and caters for 125 children and young people with a wide range of additional support needs. The school is a non-denominational primary and secondary school whose catchment area extends to the whole of Midlothian. It was built 10 years ago and provides accommodation to meet both the needs of the classroom and specialist subject teachers. The school also accesses the campus facilities consisting of swimming pools, gym halls, fitness suite, assembly hall and outside sporting areas.

The school management consists of a Head Teacher, 2 Depute Head Teachers and 5 Principal Teachers, each with responsibility for a specific area of the school and one with responsibility for our Inclusion and Outreach Service. In total there are 97 education staff; 32 teaching staff and 65 support staff, plus a range of health professionals including nursing, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic professionals who have the vision and energy to sustain and promote the current standards of achievement and ensure the continued development and progress of the school.
