Salary: £14,944 - £16,850, (Pro-rata for part time and sessional)
Hours: 27.5 per week (Mon - Fri), term-time only (39 weeks per year)
Currie Community High School is to the south west of the City of Edinburgh serving Currie, Riccarton, Juniper Green and Baberton communities. The present building was opened in 1966.
The school roll is currently 686 (c25% placing requests). We have a high rate of return into senior school.
Our SQA results are above local and national averages. An extensive extra-curricular programme is offered and we have been awarded a fourth Eco-school Green Flag.
The Support Staff Team in Currie Community High School prides itself with the provision of high quality, professional and committed support to our parents, pupils, staff and members of our local community. Each member of the Support Staff Team has a key role to play in the further development of Currie Community High School as an establishment of teaching excellence.
The Pupil Support Assistant (PSA) will work within the Support for Learning Team comprising a Pupil Support Leader, an Inclusion Teacher and six PSA's. The primary role of the PSA is to assist in meeting the educational needs of all pupils ensuring those with additional support needs can effectively access the curriculum.
Under the direction and supervision of teaching or nominated staff, the post holder will be required to support pupils in the classroom and throughout the school learning environment through organised activities, providing support, assistance and encouragement to help each individual child achieve the best learning outcomes possible.
The Pupil Support Assistant will also be expected to carry out various administration tasks. Welcoming new challenges and engaging fully with the wider priorities of the school is also at the core of our aims.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
