Portobello High School
Salary: £22,416 - £35,763
Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education
Portobello High School is currently the largest local authority run school in Edinburgh with a roll of more than 1300, drawn mainly from five associate primary schools. We are seeking to recruit a Teacher of Support for Learning /Behaviour with a background in either primary or secondary education. This post involves working with individual young people to support their learning as well as working in partnership with colleagues across the school and from other agencies. We adopt a nurturing approach which would see the post holder working both in our Base (supporting learning) and our newly-developed Space (providing nurture and emotional support). In October 2016, the school moved into a superb new building on Milton Road close to rail, bus and road links. This post represents a great opportunity for the right person to join a large staff team and work in a truly comprehensive setting. Significant investment has been made in digital technology to support effective learning and most learners have their own iPad. This is enhanced by 80'' teaching screens connected to Apple TV in all classrooms. A number of innovative approaches have been adopted to help our young people develop the skills and attributes required to make successful post school transitions. The school has well-established links with its community and the proximity of Edinburgh College, four Universities and all that the Scotland's capital city has to offer gives scope for the development of further partnerships. For an informal discussion about the post please contact Ruth McKay, Headteacher.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
