The Property & Facilities Team delivers a first class service to over 1,500 staff and nearly 18,000 students. The department’s focus is on managing the University's key facilities, including estates and buildings, energy and sustainability, security, cleaning, logistics, print room, sports centre, catering services, conference management and student accommodation.
Edinburgh Napier has recently increased its security provision across the University estate and student accommodation buildings and has a requirement to recruit two Security Assistants who will work 24/7 on a 12 hour four day on – four day off rotational dayshift/nightshift pattern, averaging 42 hours per week.
Duties will include foot/mobile patrols; opening/locking of premises; operational control of University car parking; security of equipment, vehicles and all University premises including student accommodation buildings; and generally implementing University security regulations in a customer focused manner to ensure a safe and secure environment.
You will have extensive relevant experience in a security environment or within HM Forces/Police and have recent operational experience of security systems including CCTV; Access Control, fire systems/equipment; and 2 way radio.
You should have excellent oral communication skills combined with a good personal manner and customer focused approach to enable effective communication with a diverse range of people in a variety of situations. In addition, excellent written communication skills combined with knowledge of Microsoft packages, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook, are required in order to prepare security reports and detailed written communications. Able to contribute positively as part of a small team and confidently on your own initiative in lone working situations, you will be able to undertake security foot/mobile vehicle patrols, therefore a current driving licence is an essential requirement.
The University is seeking to increase the proportion of women employed as Security Assistants as there will be incidents when having a mixed gender response team will allow appropriate action to be taken more swiftly. As such there is an occupational requirement for a proportion of the job holders to be female as permitted under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

*Salary details: Grade 2, £16,961 - £20,046 per annum plus 3.5% shift allowance and agreed contractual overtime of 311 hours per annum, currently payable at time and a quarter bringing overall starting salary package in the region of £20,556 per annum increasing through an annual incremental scale to £24,295 per annum.
