A leading global technology organisation is currently looking for a Cost Engineer to join their highly experienced team of professionals.
The main purpose of the role is to support the activity of the product and device development teams by setting challenging financial targets for unit cost at a system and component level and to proactively reduce the unit cost of existing and new product and minimize investment.
In addition, the candidate will provide both technical and financial expertise to drive business decision making, including cost modelling techniques, value engineering and value analysis.
Main responsibilities for the Cost Engineer:
*Cost estimation for component piece cost and vendor tooling (absolute & fluctuation)
*Generation of cost reduction ideas
*Develop detailed cost estimates for piece cost and vendor tooling from Design concepts, component drawings or samples
*Support Global Product Development peer group activities
*Maintain and own the costed BOM during development
*Create regular reports detailing the projected product cost versus target during development phase
*Gather technical & economic data from suppliers in order to develop, populate & validate cost estimating tools
*Generate cost reduction proposals
*Support competitive analysis teardown and benchmarking activities
*Promote cost awareness & ownership within the company through education of peers enabling in-flight design adjustments
*Develop & evolve tools and systems for the calculation, storage and modelling of piece part and systems cost data.
Preferred Requirements for Mechanical Engineer:
*Minimum 5 years of related experience in an Engineering/Manufacturing environment
*Product Cost Management, estimating and process planning experience within a Production and Engineering environment.
*Knowledge of procurement processes, practical negotiation skills, cost estimating and engineering practices value analysis, value engineering and cost modelling techniques.
*Knowledge of sheet metal, plastic injection moulding, plating/painting/decorative finishes, manual/auto assembly and other appropriate technologies
*Must be able to communicate effectively and have an aptitude for learning new techniques, methods and principles
*Must be computer literate, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
*Working knowledge of CAD (Windchill) and BOM creation tools
