Our Generation Development business is responsible for the development and construction of SSE's portfolio of thermal and renewable energy projects in the UK and Ireland. We now have over 3,500MW of renewable energy capacity in operation, under construction or with consent for development. The Development provides a service of all disciplines including GIS & Mapping services to the business.

A position is currently available to join the existing Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Team responsible for assisting the delivery of high quality, safe and fully leased and consented onshore wind farms in the UK. The focus is on the delivery of GIS services to support the submission of planning applications and their supporting Environmental Statements. The position will be based at SSE's flagship Renewables office based in Waterloo Street, Glasgow.

You will be responsible for the provision of maps, plans and drawings to support the development process and the submission of Planning Applications and Environmental Statements. You will also be involved in the sourcing and management of spatial data sets and ensuring the management and upkeep of geographic information, associated metadata and attribute information.

In addition you will also be working directly with the Project Managers and other team members to progress the submission of onshore wind farms and you will work closely with project consultants as requested.

In this position you will occasionally be required to attend public exhibitions and engage with members of the public.

To be successful in this role you will be a graduate in a geography or environmental base discipline which covers the use of GIS and have a strong understanding of the ESRI suite of GIS.  Your skills will include but not limited to: Sourcing, management and upkeep of spatial data sets and associated metadata and attribute information; Competent use of advanced editing techniques; Understanding of extensions – 3D and Spatial analysis. Knowledge of Access Databases, Visual Basic and Python would be advantageous.

Solid numerical ability, IT and written English skills are essential
