Lead Engineer

Trig Avionics, a leading provider of General Aviation avionics for communications, navigation and surveillance, has an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Engineer to enhance their team.

You’ll be joining the business at an exciting phase of growth, as we are taking on significant new development programs in avionics. As a Lead Engineer you will be responsible for delivering technical contributions and team leadership to develop complete cutting edge products.

You’ll be an expert in one of the following disciplines, and familiar with several others: digital hardware design, analogue hardware design, RF design, FPGA, verification and test, or embedded software. With experience of working in an engineering research and development environment you will be technical leader for a multidisciplinary project team with responsibility for delivering new products. You will take technical ownership of the complete product.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll join a small, friendly team and will demonstrate your ability to work well alongside people with various skill sets. You will have experience working with our suppliers and manufacturing team to ensure your product makes a smooth transition into volume production. You’ll have experienced the full product development and manufacturing introduction life cycle.

With client facing experience and excellent communication skills, you will be able to lead technical discussions with colleagues and clearly convey complex technical concepts to clients and contractors. You’ll be capable of delivering accurate technical documentation with great attention to detail. You’ll have a confident outlook and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Knowledge and experience of certification of products and design for manufacture will be an advantage, as will a knowledge of aircraft systems and equipment interfaces. Ideally you’ll have a passion for aviation.

Whilst avionics experience is an advantage, applications are encouraged from engineers from other sectors with experience of designing and producing small devices such as medical instruments, automotive and the oil and gas sector where relevant skills and experience are transferrable. Experience of leading cross functional teams is highly desirable.

You will be responsible for but not limited to the following duties:

•Developing innovative new avionics products

•Technically responsible for projects to deliver new products, with technical ownership of the complete product

•Technical contribution within your own area of expertise

•Leading a product through its full lifecycle encompassing requirements, development, verification, certification and handover to volume manufacturing

Essential Experience and Skills:

•Experience in leading a small multidisciplinary engineering team

•Background in one of the following disciplines, familiarity with several others:  digital hardware design, analogue hardware design, FPGA, RF design, verification and test or embedded software.

•Experience of the whole product life cycle from requirements capture through implementation to validation

•Experience of working in an engineering research and development environment

•High standard of technical documentation
