Our Commercial function looks to explore, develop and forge long-term relationships with customers throughout the world. Building on the many years of successful business in the UK marketplace MacTaggart Scott has grown significantly and now supplies customers in 60 countries throughout the world.

The Commercial function is responsible for the contractual and commercial management of these customer relationships. In depth knowledge of the Naval Defence Industry, together with a strong commercial pedigree are key to success in this area. Essential to support this is a buy-in to the customer needs together with an empathy and understanding of international trade and cultures.  We look to maintain our drive for further worldwide growth as well as nurturing continued support and development of the UK marketplace in defence, and some civil markets.

We currently have a vacancy for an experienced Contract and Commercial Officer.  In the role you will provide all aspects of pre and post contract support to the business, primarily for the UK home market, including managing the delivery of contracts and customer orders, whilst also ensuring best practice and compliance in all areas of commercial activity. You will be involved in pre contract and bidding activity where required, as well as review and approve quotations (subject to their delegated level of financial authority).  In addition to this manage the Commercial relationship with customers, on occasion face to face and support other business departments and functions with respect to commercial matters.

We are looking for an experienced self-motivated contract/commercial officer with excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to develop sustainable relationships, identify commercial risks and opportunities and adapt standard agreements.  Influencing colleagues and customers is key.  Knowledge of legal issues, standard IP issues, profitability requirements, contract structure, terms and conditions, sub-contract considerations, and funding and payment plans is advantageous.  The successful candidate will be qualified and/or suitably experienced in a related (commercial\business) discipline but also prepared to learn new skills and be interested in self-development within the role.  Ideally, a qualified member of professional Contracting and Commercial body (IACCM), if not prepared to work towards it in time.  You will work efficiently and effectively to prioritise a diverse range of tasks and have good IT skills - knowledge and experience of MS Office applications including Excel & Word.  Experience of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning systems), would be advantageous.
