Female Volunteer BefrienderVacancy posted: Saturday, 8 October 2016
Salary: Out of pocket expenses
Location: Bridge of Weir
Glen Valley is in Quarriers Village. It is a beautiful two storey Victorian building and has a modern internal environment and lovely homely atmosphere.
Glen Valley House is a residential care home supporting seven people with learning disabilities, epilepsy and behaviours that may be challenging at times, when staff are offering support, or when people are engaging with one another.
S is a 62-year-old lady with well controlled epilepsy and also has some mental wellbeing issues, although no mental health diagnosis. These issues can range from range and anger to an elated state of wellbeing. The lady has been supported by Quarriers for a long time. She struggles to make and maintain meaningful relationships, has minimal support from her family and would love a volunteer befriender.
A female volunteer befriender is required of similar age to visit S and have chats in Glen Valley, or if S is choosing to do so, go out for a coffee, walks or take the bus to Bridge Of Weir or Kilmalcolm.
The purpose of this role is to talk about life in very general terms, and maybe to offer/introduce another interest or hobby to S that could form part of the volunteers role and offer S new experiences.
The skills/experience necessary for the volunteer role are:
- Good listening skills
- A positive outlook and general life experience
It would be great if the volunteer could commit to a couple of hours twice a week – any days to suit the volunteer.
Training and support will include:
- First aid
- Staff in project will offer support
- Risk Assessments will be undertaken by project staff
- Health and safety induction
All travel expenses will be provided. Selection process will be application form, references, interview and PVG disclosure.
