Quarriers Technology Enabled Care Pilot allows people to use technology in their homes through a home hub to effectively manage their care and independence. They can contact a responder service through their home hub for care support and also as a means to interact with someone to reduce isolation and loneliness.

If you can find your way around a computer and enjoy talking to people then this new and exciting volunteer role is for you! Many people stay in touch with family and friends using Skype, Face Time or Google Hangout and this is similar.

The volunteer be required to support users of the service as a ‘responder’ providing one to one support based in one of our responder centres in Kilmarnock. Support would be provided via users ‘home hub’ live webcam and volunteers would provide befriending support, getting to know the person/persons they are supporting and build up trust and understanding of each other.

Volunteers would be required to attend meetings, events (if relevant), training, keeping a record of member’s progress or issues raised when communicating through users home hub.
The purpose of the role is to be a point of contact/responder to the client’s home hub, befriend and support users to reduce isolation and loneliness and also give confidence to the user in communicating through their home hub.

Main tasks

  • To engage with people who use ‘home hub’ and answer all support requests through
  • Quarriers responder system. Pass on any support requests to relevant Care Team Member or any issues of concern.
  • Be a friendly face, have a chat and enjoy each other’s company.

Required skills, qualities and experience:

  • The key quality we are looking for is someone who is reliable and wants to help others.
  • We are looking for someone with patience and good listening and communication skills.
  • We would need an individual who has good IT & Internet skills.

Where and when:
Quarriers Village – Week day evenings or weekends.

Volunteers can also login from home if  this is preferred.

Times to be agreed with Volunteer

Commitment required:
It is hoped you can commit for at least six months to get the most out of the experience. Days and hours would be dependent on your availability.

Training and support provided:
All training and support will be provided prior to starting in volunteer role. There will be ongoing training and reference materials available.

Minimum age requirement:
Due to the nature of the role, the minimum age is 16 years old.

Selection procedure:
The selection process would be to initially complete an application, informal interview or telephone call depending on geographical location, PVG disclosure and reference checks
