ChildLine Volunteer Counsellor

Vacancy posted: Monday, 10 October 2016

Salary: úvoluntary
Location: Glasgow

ChildLine Glasgow is recruiting volunteer counsellors for Essential Volunteer Training (EVT) courses running in Summer and Autumn 2016. In order to get through the application and recruitment process in time for training you will need to apply as soon as possible.

If you'd like to find out more you can come along to a Volunteer Rrecruitment Meeting (VRM) either before or after you apply. See the VRM advert on s1jobs or the NSPCC website for VRM dates. We recommend that you come along to a VRM at some point in the recruitment process.

ChildLine Volunteer Counsellors use counselling skills to offer support, comfort and advice to children and young people who contact ChildLine about a range of issues including bullying, abuse, neglect, sexuality, pregnancy and facts of life. Volunteer counsellors listen, assess and explore feelings and options with callers or with children and young people contacting us by phone or online. Volunteers work with supervisors to assess callers’ safety, whether we might need to get them help, and to ensure volunteers feel supported on difficult calls or contacts.

Volunteering takes place at our Glasgow base at Templeton House, 62 Templeton Street, Glasgow, G40 1DA. If you’re open-minded, have IT skills, and can make a regular time commitment to volunteer to help children and young people, you could be one of our counselling volunteers. No experience is necessary – training and support is provided*.

Applications are submitted online via the NSPCC website. Please be aware that the recruitment process takes quite some time. In order to allow time for interviews, references and PVG checks to be undertaken prior to training, we suggest that you submit an application as soon as possible.

· We offer interview slots on a first come, first served basis, so please submit your application as soon as possible in order to be invited to interview as soon as possible. Training places will be offered on a first come, first served basis so the earlier your interview, the better your chance of getting a training place.

· CVs and/or incomplete applications can’t be accepted

· *Our Essential Volunteer Training (EVT) takes around 45 hours, normally delivered in weekly 3 to 3½ hour sessions. The training is assessable, and trainees need to complete the training and achieve the necessary skill levels in order to become volunteer counsellors. If successful at training, ChildLine asks volunteers to commit to a minimum of 1 year’s volunteering and 40 volunteer “shifts” (4¼ hours each) within that year. Minimum age for volunteering is 16 – there is no maximum age.
