We are looking for a volunteer befriender to attend activities with a 36-year-old man supported by Quarriers Fred Martin Service.

The man is a resident at Northwoodside Road, a small house within Quarriers Fred Martin Service. It is shared by three adults who have learning disabilities. It is situated in the West End of Glasgow (Maryhill) and is surrounded with good transport links such as buses and the underground. It has plenty of pubs and cafes nearby.

The role of the volunteer will be to befriend and form a relationship by spending time engaging in sociable activities that are enjoyed by both parties.

Main tasks for this role will be to support a male on outings such as the cinema, cafes, walks and pubs. The volunteer will always be supported by a member of staff as the male involved has a 2:1 ratio of support while out and about in the community.

The volunteer would need to have a sense of humour and be a sociable person. Preferably a male as the person being supported is strong and may need assistance when crossing roads, etc. The person would also need to be fit and active.

This opportunity will take place out and about in the community for a couple of hours each week, with times arranged to suit both parties.

Training provided will include strategies for crisis, intervention and protection course (SCIP). Travel expenses will be paid, and it would be advantegeous if the volunteer was a car driver. The volunteer will have access to the service's car.
