We are looking for volunteers to run a range of group activities for adults with a disability in Glasgow.

Quarriers Glasgow Southside Group Activities is a brand new service, providing meaningful activities to adults with learning disabilities in the Southside of Glasgow.

A number of volunteers are required to provide meaningful activities to a group of adults with learning disabilities. You will be required to lead the group in a session leader role in your chosen area of interest/expertise. You will also devise session plans for your allotted time and be inclusive for all service users encouraging participation. Sessions should be fun, educational, and service user-led.

The aim is to introduce service users to regular activities to enable them to develop their own skills. This new service, based in the Southside of Glasgow is an extension of the already established Glasgow Group Activities in the West End of Glasgow. The project aims to provide meaningful activities to enhance peoples’ social inclusion and meet their Outcome Based Support Plans.  The Group will be based in local community center’s to encourage social inclusion and community development.

Required skills, Qualities and Experience

Volunteers should have a relevant qualification or interest in any of the following areas:

  • Music
  • Movement to Music
  • Dance
  • Art
  • Crafts
  • Drama or theatre performance
  • Cooking/baking
  • Gardening
  • IT
  • Massage therapy
  • Beauty therapy
  • Group games (ie parachute games, rounders etc)
  • Cinema groups
  • Walking groups

Alternatively, please approach us if you think you have a talent that you wish to bring to a group.

Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities is desirable. Qualifications will be required in certain areas such as massage, beauty and fitness.

The group sessions take place in the Southside of Glasgow.

Due to the nature of the group it would be great if the volunteer could commit to at least six months.

Due to the nature of the service, the minimum age for this role is 18.

Training and Support Provided

  • All volunteers can access relevant Quarriers training courses in-line with their volunteering role.  Volunteers may attend relevant current Group Activities sessions before running their own.  Support will be provided through liaising with the Group Activities Development Worker after every session, and supervisions on a mutually convenient frequency
  • No support care will be required for service users as they will have their own support staff.
  • Secection process will be volunteer application form, telephone for further information, interview with Group Activities Development worker, portfolio or audition (depending on role), PVG (Disclosure Scotland), references, production of relevant qualifications and insurance documents (if applicable).
  • Potential volunteers may attend current Group Activities session in the northwest area of Glasgow before running their own session.
