The IT team (a sub-team of the Information Services Team) within the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS), operates a multi-platform (Windows and Linux) service comprising desktop computing, server/storage infrastructure supporting teaching and research activities for around 350 staff/RAs, 300 PGR students and 1800 Undergraduate and Postgraduate taught students.

As part of the School IT team, the post holder will be responsible for providing first line IT support to the staff and students across the school, which involves providing helpdesk support, operating system and software installation, testing, diagnosis and repair of IT equipment.

The successful applicants will provide 1st line Help Desk support for the School’s staff and students which will involve handling email requests coming into the Helpdesk, answering phone calls and dealing with direct visits to the helpdesk and escalate any 2nd line requests that you cannot assist with directly and then liaise with the other IT staff in the School or the University to ensure that the problem is resolved in a timely fashion.

You will have an HND in computer science or equivalent IT based subject area together with extensive working experience of Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 10 and experience of operating system and application deployment and updates
