The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is one of the largest and most successful engineering faculties in the UK, and the largest in Scotland. As a leading international technological university, Strathclyde University is recognised for its world class research, knowledge exchange and educational programmes. At the heart of this is the Faculty of Engineering which boasts a growing research portfolio of nearly £100 million. We are also the only Engineering Faculty in the UK to be engaged in eight multi-million pound EPSRC-funded Doctoral/Industrial Training Centres.

The Faculty was recently successful in securing funding for the establishment of the Strathclyde Engineering Academy which will, in partnership with industry and FE colleges, enhance the student learner journey, widen College student access to University and develop the hands-on skills of our future graduates.

The Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering is recognised nationally and internationally for its excellence in teaching and research in naval architecture, ocean engineering, marine engineering, and small craft technology.

The Department seeks to appoint an IT Officer to support staff and students with all aspects of IT hardware and software. As the IT lead for this Department, you will liaise with the appropriate IT staff/teams with the Faculty and University to ensure that all systems comply with the necessary regulatory frameworks and standards.

You will interact with a variety of stakeholders including senior management, to influence, develop and shape the departmental IT strategy and operational planning. You will be responsible for identifying areas of improvement as well as future areas of development to improve the overall IT systems capabilities within the Department. You will lead the implementation of business improvement solutions, and will lead and contribute to a wide variety of different IT projects including e-learning via the University myPlace / Moodle system.

The role will also involve provision of professional advice and support to staff and students within the Department, as well as providing and arranging for general day to day IT support for staff and students.

Applicants for this position must be degree qualified (or have equivalent professional experience) and a have proven track record of working in a fast paced IT development role and previous experience in a 1st/ 2nd line support role. You will have a detailed knowledge and an applied practical understanding of the fundamentals of PC applications and hardware. You will have the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders to lead the identification, development and implementation of IT improvements. You will have excellent troubleshooting skills, including a methodical approach to solving complex problems. You will have an ability to work autonomously, prioritising your own workload and making decisions with minimum supervision in order to meet work deadlines and you will have the ability to work as part of a team.
