Reporting to the IT Manager, the purpose of the Systems Engineer is to analyse, design, specify, budget, procure, install, commission and provide continuing support and development for process control computer systems and specialised associated equipment throughout the business. With the aim of maximising the efficiency, throughput and yield of plant processes.
•Undertake program design, coding, testing, documentation and modification work as required to meet the needs of plant.
•Implement quality assurance policies for the design, development and support of software.
•Manage, maintain and monitor existing process control computer systems to ensure maximum availability to plant.
•Implement process control computer systems to meet the technical and functional objectives of plant operation and control.
•Prepare process control system specifications, based on discussions with internal customers and the job holders specialist knowledge and experience, for tendering purposes.
•Supervise and undertake the commissioning of completed systems to meet the specifications of the project.
•Attend plant out of hours when required for fault correction, commissioning, trials, investigations, or support. Participate in a reasonable endeavours call out system.
•Assess and appraise tenders for the best technical and cost effective solution.
Knowledge Plant Process
The job holder should be qualified to degree standard or equivalent in a science/engineering discipline and have minimum 3 years experience of process control computers and applications with a good knowledge of software development techniques, computer languages, databases and operating systems, networks, hardware and software tools, preferably gained while working on heavy industry computer applications.
A thorough knowledge of the plant process and the ability to work at a very detailed level during fault finding, specification and design activities is required additonally Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly at all levels with both internal and external contacts.
