We are looking for a Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture (SASA) in Edinburgh EH12 9FJ.
The primary function of this post is to work on a 3-year Potato Council funded project entitled ‘Evaluating the effectiveness of mineral oils in minimising the spread of non-persistent viruses in potato seed crops in GB’. The project involves a close collaboration with other research institutes across the UK and the successful candidate will assist the lead researcher. The successful candidate will also be expected to perform general laboratory duties and participate in field work to assist other members of both the Virology and Zoology Laboratories as required.

You must hold a minimum of 5 SCE Standard or Ordinary Grades or equivalent including English and a subject which clearly indicates competency in figure work such as: - Mathematics, Accounting and Finance, Arithmetic, Book-keeping. Passes must be at grade 1-3 or A-C.
In addition to the above you must be able to demonstrate good judgement and decision making skills on all aspects of the day to day running of a laboratory. You must have good organisational skills with the ability to plan and organise work to meet agreed deadlines. You must be competent in basic figure work including calculation of percentages. You must also demonstrate good team working and good oral and written communication skills.
This is a 3 years fixed term and pensionable appointment. New entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range.
