Touchbase Ayrshire and Ayrshire Care at Home and Housing Support Services

Sense Scotland supports a number of adults with communication support needs and /or a physical/learning disability across Ayrshire. Our service is growing and we are currently developing a new TouchBase service in Ardrossan which will offer a range of exciting opportunities. We currently have a small staff base in Saltcoats from where we provide services out and about in the local area using local amenities. Many of the people we support are escorted from their home and in their local area and our staff therefore work in various locations around Ayrshire including Largs,Beith,Kilbirnie,Saltcoats,Ardrossan,Stevenston,Irvine and Kilwinning. Our services are flexible to meet the needs of each individual so hours worked can range from 3 to 12 hours per day. Our support services currently operate between 8am and 10pm, although many of the people we support are looking for activities during day time hours. A range of shifts are available and you will join a dedicated team to ensure continuity and confidence in your approach.

Some of the people we support have their own vehicle and are looking for staff who can drive, a clean driving licence is therefore desirable. You may sometimes work on a 1:1 basis with regular access to peer support and will also work alongside supervisors and managers.

Experience is desirable but not essential as we provide extensive training, local induction and regular supervision and support. When our new building is complete you will be working in a purpose built base with access to a range of facilities to support individuals including access to arts and sporting facilities. All of the people who use our services require practical help for day to day living including help to communicate their needs, support with mobility and in some cases support with eating and drinking and personal care.

Some individuals do not communicate through speech but through their behaviour and for some this can present challenges. You will receive extensive training in understanding challenging behaviours and how to manage them.

Everyone comes with great personalities and can make an active contribution to their community in their own way with our support. Each individual is unique and has their own personal support plan to ensure they reach their potential and have the kind of support that is important to them. We work closely with families and good communication with families is an important part of the role. In addition to support services we provide care at home and housing support services to 4 individuals in their own homes. We provide 24 hour support which includes early and back shifts as well as sleepovers and/or nightshift. These services are located in Saltcoats and Irvine. No two days are the same in our services but on any day you could be supporting individuals to go to college, take a trip on a ferry to Arran, go swimming, dancing, horseriding, skiing, meet up with their friends, participate in arts and music sessions, have lunch at the local community centre or support individuals to attend health appointments.

This is rewarding work for the right people, successful candidates will be enthusiastic, team players, willing to learn, caring and sensitive to the needs of others, with a good sense of humour. You will be able to work on your own initiative and have a sensible approach to managing risk and keeping people safe.
