We are looking for a Volunteer Social Activity Assistant to support our residents who live at Rosebury Court, Kirkcaldy. KY1 1DG

The Role - Social Activity Assistant
Social Activity Volunteers encourage residents to socialise together within the development by supporting agreed social activities in the communal lounge, including:
- Organising activities in liaison with residents, staff and sometimes other volunteers
- Support residents with the activity
- Preparing communal areas for group activities
- Assist with serving refreshments
- Co-ordinating a rotating programme of social activities
Why do we need you?
In this role you will help to increase interaction and involvement of residents, who are keen to increase the social activities within the development. They are keen for a volunteer to lead and support with the organisation and overseeing of a mix of different social activities.
Duties of the Volunteer
- Organise activities alongside service users
- Run activities in conjunction with service users
- Set up prior to and clear afterwards, the lounge area for the activity
- Assist with refreshments – pouring tea/coffee etc.
When we need you
We expect a regular commitment from all our volunteers
- Once a week or fortnight
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday
- Afternoons – 1.30pm-4.00pm (during the first few weeks ((trial period), we ask the volunteer to come along to undertake the activity in the morning 10:30 – 12:30. This is to coincide with the managers working hours and also to undertake the volunteer induction. Once the trial period has concluded, the volunteer will undertake the activity in the afternoon as detailed above)
The minimum time commitment is 6 months.
What skills and experience do you need?
No qualifications are necessary. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in working with older people, have good communication skills, are able to volunteer in an unsupervised capacity, and be reliable and willing to work as part of a team.
Social Activity Assistant
We are looking for an outgoing and organised individual who would enjoy developing an array of different activities to create a varied programme, which to undertake within this development. The residents have expressed an interest in quizzes, games, talks, and reminiscence to name but a few. The volunteer would assist with the development of these activities, along with suggesting others in which to provide an interesting programme. These activities would take place within the small lounge area within the development.
All volunteers are expected to:
- Work within Bield’s policies and procedures
- Promote independence and freedom of choice.
- Keep records of activities and give feedback to staff
All volunteers can claim out-of-pocket expenses for travelling between home and the place of volunteering and for expenses incurred during the course of volunteering. For car users, re-imbursement is made at a rate of 45p per mile, up to 15 miles from the development (30 mile round trip). You will be able to gain valuable work experience, request a written reference, meet new people and contribute to your local community.
Training and Support
Support is given by an individual member of staff. You will receive an induction into your place of volunteering and the tasks you undertake, and be offered an initial four-visit trial period. All volunteers have access to our range of e-learning courses and other training may be undertaken, where appropriate.
