ORKNEY HEALTH AND CARE
Care at Home - Hoy
Home Carer (2 posts)
1 x 31.5 hours per week
1 x 17.5 hours per week
Temporary up to 31 March 2017
£20,736 - £21,881 pro rata (including shift allowance and Distant Islands Allowance)
The Home Care service adopts a re-ablement model of service provision. We have moved away from the task and time approach, and 'doing to' or 'doing for' to a 'doing with' and maximising service users' long term independence and quality of life. The service now uses Goal planning to re-able the service user to learn or relearn daily living skills and thus maximise their independence.
Home Care work is both challenging and varied, and under guidance and support from the Social Care Coordinators, you will enable individuals to achieve as much independence as possible.
This post would ideally suit someone who has recent work experience in the social care field or similar. You will need the sort of personality that enjoys interacting with people and making a difference to their lives. If you are motivated, caring, honest, have a true desire to 'work with' people and have a sense of fun, then this could be the job for you and we are waiting to hear from you.
You should hold an SVQ 2 in Health and Social Care (Adults) or equivalent or be willing to work towards this within 3 years of appointment.
You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
The post is subject to Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with adults.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake a compulsory two-week induction training programme.
Further information on these posts is available from Rachel Ware, Operational Manager, Tel: 01856 873535.
Closing Date: Sunday 30 October 2016
Please note that interview expenses are not payable for this post.
About Orkney Islands Council
Forget images of remote islands - Orkney is well served by superb modern transport links.
Forget the idea of a few people in the middle of no-where - Orkney is home to over 20,000 people.
Orkney may bring to mind certain images, but the chances are they are, to say the least, a little off the mark. Sure, we're a bit off the beaten track, but the needs of our community are just the same as anywhere else. And, as a result, the opportunities we can offer you are comparable with those you'll find elsewhere. Of course, there are a few differences: for starters Orkney consists of 100,000 hectares spread over 70+ small islands (19 of which are inhabited), so, like our service users, you'll need to make the most of the transportation links which are vital to Orkney's social and economic well-being.
Orkney Islands Council may be the smallest local authority in Scotland, but we can offer some big challenges. And big opportunities. This could be your big chance to make the move, and make a difference.
OIC has an impact on many aspects of everyday life. With around 1,800 staff, we are also the countyâââ¬Ã¢â¢s biggest employer.
