Sycamore Services, Fife
At Aberlour Sycamore Services we pride ourselves on our heritage of providing long term support for some of the most vulnerable children and young people in Scotland.
We provide a residential service in 5 community based houses, short and long-term family experiences with foster families, personalised creative therapy by registered therapists, volunteer befriending and transitions support for young people leaving care.
The vast majority of the children and young people have experienced multiple adverse childhood experiences. To allow them to grow into confident young adults, we are looking for residential workers who share our passion for a culture based on Respect, Integrity, Innovation and the ability to Challenge. You should be able to demonstrate continuity, playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy, and support the young people’s sense of belonging. Essential skills are to promote positive behaviours, assess children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing, aid their educational attainment and facilitate social interactions.
The work on offer can be physically and emotionally demanding; children and young people need fun and positive activities – and they will expect you to plan and deliver this! You will work on a rota basis including sleepovers, weekends and public holidays. You will exercise judgement about how individual young people function and live their lives, and make autonomous decisions to adapt plans and interventions accordingly. You will also be asked to go on house holidays, which can be at Flamingo Land, in Tenerife or just camping (examples for summer 2016).
We continuously review the quality and effectiveness of our services, and involve all our staff whilst planning a strategic journey towards further strengthening the Sycamore Services and building further upon our reputation and proven track record of commitment to the children and young people.
As a residential worker, you will
- receive a gradual and supported induction,
- be part of a highly motivated and skilled team
- receive continual personalised support
- have access to a well-developed training programme
As an Aberlour employee, you will receive
- competitive hourly rates with an additional 9% for working unsociable hours,
- excellent annual leave entitlement
- access to our group pension scheme
- access to the Aberlour Rewards retail discount scheme
