As an electrical engineer you will be drawing on your extensive knowledge of electronics, electromagnetism and electricity to design new electrical systems, components and equipment, then install and test them. These can be for industrial, commercial or domestic use.
With experience you may progress to a senior electrical engineer position, where you will have management and supervisory responsibilities.
Electrical design engineer jobs are focused on the development and prototyping of new systems and components, rather than the installation and maintenance of existing products and systems.
To apply for electrical engineer jobs you will need strong numeracy and literacy skills, which are necessary for putting designs down on paper, and preparing presentations and reports. You will also need to be proficient with computer-aided design programs, and have a degree in either electrical engineering or electronics engineering. People skills are essential as you will be dealing with clients, technicians and other project stakeholders on a regular basis.
