We are looking to recruit a full time Charity Shops Area Manager to run our two busy charity shops and hub store. Our charity shops raise funds for our local wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre.

About us

Since we were established in 2006 we have rescued and rehabilitated wild animals and birds. We are an associate member of the British Wildlife Rehabilitation Council, and work closely with local and national Government, as well as other stakeholders such as veterinary professionals.

New Arc Wildlife Rescue operates a 24/7, 365 days per year service for wildlife emergencies, and is also available within opening times for non-emergencies, general wildlife advice and non-critical admissions. We have a team dedicated to caring for wildlife in need, at our centre based just outside of Ellon. The Charity Shops generate funds to support this ongoing vital work.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, organized, and passionate individual who wants to help us raise funds to support our crucial work - helping local wildlife in need.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

Managing and overseeing shop operations, developing a routine for opening and closing, ensuring efficient functioning of the shops
Implementing human resource duties including recruiting, hiring, training volunteers.
Ensuring volunteers are well trained and working in a welcoming and positive environment.
Administrating accounting functions, meeting regularly with charity management,managing budgets and ensuring the shops are meeting the needs of the charity
Controlling inventory to ensure sufficient stock, rotated and changed as needed, as well as for shop specials or sales
Generating and processing donations. Ensuring accurate accounting and handling of assets (items donated and money received)
Keeping the shops tidy and presentable
Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers, supporters and volunteers
Be responsible for ensuring the shops are presented to the highest standards with attractive visual merchandising and window displays
Prepare and complete all shop administration including cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to charity policy and procedures

The successful candidate will work 38 hours per week, including some weekends. There are two charity shops (one in Ellon and one in Dyce) and the successful applicant will be expected to be available to work in both stores, and at our storage hub in Bridge of Don when required. As we are a local Charity, the role will involve liaising with the managers of both the rescue centre and broader charity, for a “whole team approach” to fundraising for the benefit of the charity and local wildlife.

Candidate requirements:

Essential

Excellent retail and trading skills

Experience and understanding of Gift Aid donations, and the use of EPOS systems

Exceptional interpersonal skills

Strong team building and leadership skills

Strong communication skills both written and oral

Committed team player

Good organisational skills

A “can do” attitude

Experience of managing and implementing shop operating policies, and standards, including health and safety and trading standards

Full UK driving licence

Desirable

Ability to work with a broad mix of people

A good understanding of how charities operate

High level numeracy skills

Qualifications in business management

Experience of working in a charity shop or the charity sector
