Edinburgh - best place to work in UK says Vodafone

Edinburgh is the best place to work in the UK, according to a new survey.

It also found business is "booming" north of the border and that Scots are the happiest workers in Britain.

The study, released by Vodafone UK, comes during the Holyrood election campaign which has seen business at the heart of the debate over independence.

Researchers today said Scots workers were the happiest and they described the Scottish capital as "the new business hotspot".

More than three-quarters of workers in the Edinburgh region think their company is on the up, and firms in the area are better able to keep their workers than in any other part of the UK.

The study of 2400 UK employees and employers also showed that growing firms are three times more likely to keep hold of their workers than stagnant or declining businesses.

But the picture painted for the rest of Britain is less rosy.

Just 36-per cent of employers think social and ethical responsibility in the workplace will be key to their company's growth, the survey revealed.

And less than three out of 10 employers believe it is very important to help staff manage their work/life balance.
