50 jobs up for grabs at new Argos store

Catalogue chain Argos is opening a second store in Glasgow city centre, creating 50 jobs.
The chain, which already has a shop in Stockwell Street, will open on August 13 in a basement below Boots in Sauchiehall Street.
Marshall Priceman, Argos area manager, said: " The new store will have a higher percentage of externally recruited staff compared to our other stores."
Claire Dunning, president of the business organisation Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: "Argos is an established High Street brand, which has long had a busy store in the Argyle Street area.
"It is good news the company is opening a second in the north of the city centre. It is more evidence Glasgow's retail sector remains robust even during the downturn."
The shop - an Argos Extra - is taking over the basement previously used by Boots, which today unveiled a revamped one-level store.
Cutting the ribbon was Boots' operations assistant Margaret Neave, from Stepps.
The 48-year-old has worked at the store since it opened in 1977, when it was spread across three fl oors.
Margaret even met husband David, 46, there - he once worked at the shop as a audio consultant when it sold televisions.
She said: "I've always enjoyed working for the company - there are some really nice people.
Everything has changed a lot but the new shop is fantastic."
