Glasgow's new-look Corinthian Club creates 200 jobs

One of Glasgow’s most exclusive venues has triggered a jobs rush.

The new-look Corinthian wants to hire 200 staff – from managers to waiting staff – and more than 1000 potential recruits turned up for open days in the hope of landing a job.

And G1 Group which owns the former Glasgow Sheriff Court in Ingram Street predicts another 1000 hopefuls will attend a third and final recruitment day on Monday at sister venue Arta in Albion Street.

A spokeswoman said: “We hope to build on the success of our previous two recruitment days with another great turnout.”

Potential recruits will undergo a short interview on the day and, if successful, will be invited back for a second involving senior managers.

The vacancies have attracted applicants from as far away as Aberdeen and London.

Stefan King’s G1 Group is spending millions of pounds refurbishing one of the city’s best food and drink establishments – but it won’t divulge what the final bill will be or how many of the 200 jobs will be permanent.

Staff who previously worked at the Merchant City site before it closed on Hogmanay ahead of the upgrade were switched to other venues owned by the group.

The major makeover is due to be completed in the coming weeks before a relaunch.

The venue, to be named The Corinthian Club, will have a casino across one of its five floors.

As a result croupiers are being hired along with bar staff, mixologists and waiters.

Chefs operating on a variety of levels are also wanted, as well as key senior staff including a deputy manager, food operations manager and bar operations manager.

Venue director Michael Bergson, right, said management had been “overwhelmed” by the response from the potential recruits.

He said: “We believe the unique and diverse proposition which will be offered at The Corinthian Club will further reinforce Glasgow’s place in the UK as a leader of style and quality and an internationally renowned tourist centre.”

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “It is fantastic to see the G1 Group make such a significant investment in the city.

“The creation of 200 jobs is great news and the chamber looks forward to continuing to working with the G1 Group.”
