Nessco to recruit an extra 20 workers in Aberdeen

NESSCO, which supplies telecommunications systems used on oil and gas rigs, expects to recruit an extra 20 workers in the coming months to keep up with demand.

The recruitment drive follows a series of contract wins which has put Aberdeen-based Nessco on course to double its turnover to £34 million in the year to March.

These include a number of projects involving fields in the UK North Sea where the company's business is booming.

Privately-owned Nessco said it has also won a number of key contracts in West Africa, Brazil and the Middle East.

The work includes systems for upstream Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessels (FPSOs) and downstream plants.

Ian McPherson, managing director, said: "Our strategy of continuing to invest during the challenging times has paid off this year with turnover doubling, significant new export contracts and the recruitment of skilled engineers and technicians."

The company's success provides further evidence of the scale of the rewards that are on offer to firms that have the expertise required to help oil and gas firms maintain activity levels to meet booming demand.

The company has created more than 40 new jobs in the current year, taking employee numbers to 130. These recruits include staff who work at the centre at Westhill from which it supports operations in the North Sea on a 24-7 basis.

Welcoming Nessco's announcement, Energy Minister Fergus Ewing said: "Oil and gas is of vital importance to the Scottish economy and with around 200,000 jobs and 30%-40% of oil reserves still to be exploited, it's an industry with a long future."

Founded in 1979, Nessco has operations in Brazil and Azerbaijan. The company said it has plans for further expansion.
