Scotland is host to phenomenal potential in this field through on and off shore wind power, marine, bio-energy and carbon management. We have seen the economic and political forces in Scotland support significant investment in renewable energy encouraging UK and global businesses to come to Scotland. Onshore wind makes the largest contribution to Scotland’s renewable energy target with modest increases in hydro schemes and biomass plants which will only continue to rise. Continued developments in technology will see heat and transfer contribute in future through waste to energy plants and carbon capture.

The whole-life cost of energy from UK offshore wind projects is expected to be driven down by more than 15% in real terms between 2011 and 2022, under normal market conditions. Under favourable conditions, such as increased competition, lower exchange rates and stable commodity prices, the decrease in costs would be as much as 33%. This will in turn offer significant opportunity for growth for Scottish companies and will undoubtedly attract new businesses to the Scottish Construction market.
