Guidance notes for all applicants

The following information is designed to help you complete your application form. All information you provide will be treated in confidence and will only be seen by those involved in the selection process.

The application form plays a critical part in the selection process. First we use it to determine whether you will be short-listed or not and the, if you are short-listed we use it to form the basis of the interview. It is therefore important that you complete this form as fully and accurately as possible. Please note that if you provide false information or deliberately omit any relevant details, you will be disqualified from the selection process and if employment has commenced subject to summary dismissal from the company.

Completing the application form or submitting your CV

Before starting to fill in the form please read the advertisement, job description or any further details very carefully, or submit your CV as applicable.

Personal Details

Please make sure that you complete this section fully. We need these details so that we can contact you.

Current and previous employment

It is important that you include the full name and postal address of all your employers and the dates you were employed by them. No references will betaken from previous or your current employer until you have been offered and accepted a position. You should also use this section to describe any temporary or voluntary jobs you have held.

Education/Qualifications

You should complete this section as fully as possible. Make clear the levels of your examinations, e.g. GCSE, GCE, ‘O’ Level, ‘A’ Level etc. and grades that you obtained. If offered a position with the company you may be required to provide evidence of your qualifications.

References

All offers of employment are subject to the receipt of satisfactory references covering a 3 year working period.

If you are unable to provide 3 years worth of working references we may require you to provide personal references from whom we can obtain references, we are unable to obtain references from family members. It is in your own interest to seek approval from personal referees before you submit their details.

Statement in support of your application

This section gives you the opportunity to explain how you think you meet the requirements for the job. You should include relevant experience and achievements, relating to your skills, knowledge and competencies. Take into consideration paid or unpaid work you have done, together with any community work. This really is your chance to tell us why you want to work for us! You can continue on a separate sheet of paper if necessary.

Disclosure of information

Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, any conviction for a criminal offence can be regarded as spent provided:-

  • The conviction did not carry a sentence excluded from the Act, such as a custodial sentence of over two and a half years
  • No further convictions occurred within the rehabilitation period.

If you have a conviction, which would be regarded as “spent”, you do not have to declare this on your application form. If you have a conviction, which is not “spent” this will not automatically debar you from employment with us.

We will consider the nature of the conviction and its relevance to the job applied for.

Asylum and Immigration Act 1996

The Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 makes it a criminal offence for us to employ those who do not have permission to live or work in the United Kingdom. Applicants may be required to provide documentary evidence of their right to live and work in the United Kingdom if invited to interview/ and or employed.

Additional information

If you are short-listed you will be contacted and invited to attend an interview. If there are any special requirements associated with the interview process e.g. exercises or presentations, you will be informed accordingly.

All offers of employment are subject to us obtaining and accepting references that are satisfactory to us. If we are unable to secure a reference or the reference is not, in our opinion, satisfactory, we reserve the right to withdraw our offer of employment. If employment has already commenced, we reserve the right to terminate the employment.

You may be asked to provide certificates or evidence of the qualifications, which you have stated you hold.
