For the UK as a whole these figures stand at 3.7% and 21.3%.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13075\" src=\"https:\/\/www.s1jobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Business-Activity.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.s1jobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Business-Activity.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.s1jobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Business-Activity-600x508.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.s1jobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Business-Activity-300x254.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Salaries and Median Pay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In more good news, the median monthly pay in Scotland, according to latest estimates, was \u00a32,243 in February.<\/p>\n<p>This was up 8.7% year-on-year compared to more subdued growth of 6.7% for the UK combined. However, both are still below the Consumer Price Index (CPIH) inflationary rate of 8.8% during the 12 months to January, so people are still very much feeling the pinch of real-term pay cuts.<\/p>\n<p>On a monthly basis, CPIH fell by 0.4% in January, indicating that inflation is slowing. If salaries continue to grow and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/politics\/23386640.hunt-hopes-budget-will-get-country-back-work-pandemic-slump\/\">inflation<\/a> is further tempered, then employees will start to see a real benefit from rising wages.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13078\" src=\"https:\/\/www.s1jobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Sentiment.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.s1jobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Sentiment.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.s1jobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Sentiment-600x408.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.s1jobs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Sentiment-300x204.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vacancies and hiring trends<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite all the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.s1jobs.com\/blog\/employment-in-scotland-analysis-reasons-for-cautious-optimism-as-employers-hold-their-nerve\/\">positives<\/a>, hiring intentions among employers are showing signs of softening. However, the further tightening of the labour market is creating headwinds for employers in the form of higher direct costs to make their products, which is squeezing profit margins.
