Erskine Stewarts Melville Schools
Profile
Erskine Stewart's Melville Schools (ESMS) is a unique family of independent schools for boys and girls. The Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools (ESMS) are owned by the Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh, with powers devolved to the ESMS Governing Council. The Mary Erskine School and Stewart's Melville College are twinned, but separate and single-sex, while boys and girls under 12 are educated together in the ESMS Junior School. In Sixth Form, both boys and girls are taught together. Senior school boys and girls come together in orchestras, choirs, drama and musicals, and in Outdoor Education projects and in the CCF. The schools are predominantly for day pupils and have a combined roll of over 2750 pupils. There are two boarding houses for sixty boys and girls which reinforce a powerful sense of community. The schools are characterised by high academic standards and by fine reputations in music, sport and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. ESMS provides means-tested financial assistance to over 150 bursary holders from Primary 7 upwards.
