Taylor snacks Ltd (formerly Mackie’s at Taypack ltd) was founded back in 2009 as a joint venture between two farming families, the Taylor and Mackie families from Perthshire and Aberdeenshire in Scotland. The company first focused its attention on producing a range of premium crisps with a difference. The thick cut crisps were an instant hit with snack lovers UK wide thanks to their unique texture and taste which soon resulted in listings across all major UK retailers. The range includes classic flavours such as salt, salt & vinegar and Cheese & onion but also some innovative flavours such as haggis & black pepper, Lorne sausage & brown sauce and boxing day curry. Crisps sales have grown rapidly over the years with almost 2 million packs a month now produced out of the Perthshire factory. The success of the crisps led the Taylors to innovate and launch their next range of snacks which was a range of popcorn launched in 2016. The popcorn is made using traditional popping methods using individual kettles to create flavours such as sweet & salted, sweet, & lightly salted popcorn but the stand out product produced by the factory is its range of delicious and indulgent toffee coated popcorn. There has been plenty of innovation on the toffee coated side with new flavours being released over the years such as sticky toffee pudding, salted caramel, chocolate orange and gingerbread flavoured popcorn at Christmas. All popcorn is produced at a factory in Dinnington near Sheffield in South Yorkshire. Taylors innovation within snacking has continued and as consumers began to demand and look for healthier snacks Taylors responded with an investment into a first of it’s kind air popping technology to create a range of great tasting low fat snacks in 2019. This line currently produces a diverse range of healthy snacks including lentil hoops and waves, high protein pea based chips for dieters as well as hummus bites for kids with plenty more innovation and NPD in the pipeline. The business although still family owned remains highly ambitious and has hugely exciting growth and expansion plans at both its Perthshire and Sheffield factories.
