You First Advocacy is a vibrant local charity, providing an Independent Professional Advocacy Service, to a wide range of vulnerable adults, covering the entire area of Renfrewshire. The Service is a member of the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA) and is committed to providing Advocacy, in accordance with the SIAA Independent Advocacy Principles, Standards & Code of Best Practice.

The Service is provided by paid staff and trained volunteers, to promote equality and diversity, through our key objectives:

• To relieve poverty and relieve the needs of people with physical and/or mental disabilities, illness and/or impairment by increasing the availability of, and facilitating access to, independent advocacy, assistance and representation for the benefit of those living in Renfrewshire. To advance education by increasing knowledge and awareness of advocacy and related matters.
• Safeguarding individuals who may be vulnerable to discrimination.
• Empowering individuals to express their own needs and make their own decisions.
• Supporting service users to gain access to information, explore and understand their options and to make their views and wishes known.
• Speaking up for people who are unable to do so for themselves.
• Promoting independent advocacy in the community.

The service is provided for:

• Eligible individuals who require short-term Independent Professional Advocacy, to address specific issues arising from health, community care or legal interventions in relation to health or community care services. These may include, but are not restricted to, issues pertaining to: Adult Support and Protection, Homelessness, Hospital Care and Treatment, Complaints, Housing, Debt, Financial Crises.
• Eligible individuals who are subject to mental health legislation.
