Full Job Description

Job purpose: Hawthorn Tax is a modern, forward-thinking accountancy and tax firm based in Glasgow with a four-day working week. We offer compliance services (accounts preparation, tax returns, payroll, etc.) as well as a range of advisory services for businesses and investors.

Our aim is to provide assistance and advice to our clients to enable them to build successful businesses. That involves assisting them to make decisions around tax and accounting with confidence.

We are a young, growing business with big plans. We have many opportunities for our team members to develop and progress within the business.

You will start your accounting career, gaining valuable practical experience from day 1 – learning from experienced and talented colleagues. In addition, you’ll obtain an accounting qualification (AAT SQCF Level 6) with the help of our training provider Babington.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work towards completing the SQCF Level 6 AAT accounting qualification with support and training provided by Babington. A day a week will be set aside for this learning.
  • Use leading digital software to assist our accountants with a variety of bookkeeping processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of VAT returns.
  • Carry out analysis of client’s data using Excel spreadsheets.
  • Assist with other admin related tasks to support the team and our clients.

We have a clear route for progression and further qualifications. There will be opportunities for promotion and further studies, including Chartered Accountant or Chartered Tax Adviser.

We currently have 3 apprentices at various stages of their training and one that has recently finished with the plan to move onto ACCA.

What will I learn? During your apprenticeship you will develop practical bookkeeping and accounting skills while working towards your SCQF 6 AAT Qualification.

What qualifications or qualities are required? Six national 5s including Maths and English

Familiarity with the Microsoft suite including Word and Excel.

Confidence and professionalism when communicating.
