Full Job Description

Job purpose: This is an excellent opportunity to begin your career with a highly respected and well-established organisation operating within the insurance and financial services sector. You will join a professional, customer-focused team where you can gain valuable workplace experience while working towards a recognised Business & Administration Apprenticeship qualification.

As a Business & Administration Apprentice, you will support the day-to-day running of the office and work alongside experienced colleagues across a range of administrative and customer service activities. Your duties will include responding to telephone and email enquiries, preparing and processing documentation, maintaining accurate records, supporting appointment scheduling and assisting with general office administration.

You will also have regular contact with customers, helping to provide a professional and welcoming service while developing your confidence and communication skills.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will receive structured training, mentoring and practical experience designed to help you develop your knowledge of business administration and customer service. There is also a clear opportunity for progression into a customer service-focused role following successful completion of the apprenticeship and achievement of the required performance standards.

What will I learn? During your apprenticeship, you will develop a broad range of practical and transferable workplace skills, including:

  • Business administration and office procedures
  • Providing professional customer service
  • Communicating confidently by telephone, email and face-to-face
  • Preparing and processing business and customer documentation
  • Maintaining accurate customer and business records
  • Using business systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Managing emails, correspondence and documentation
  • Diary management and appointment scheduling
  • Organising and prioritising your workload
  • Handling customer enquiries professionally
  • Working effectively as part of a team
  • Developing attention to detail and accuracy
  • Understanding professional standards within a regulated business environment
  • Building knowledge of the insurance and financial services sector
  • Developing the confidence and knowledge required to progress into a customer service role

You will work towards a recognised Business & Administration Apprenticeship qualification and receive ongoing training and support from experienced colleagues. As you progress, there may also be opportunities to undertake further industry-specific training and relevant professional licences.

What qualifications or qualities are required? We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable and keen to learn. You do not need extensive previous experience, but you should have a positive attitude and be motivated to develop your skills and build a long-term career.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • The ability to manage different tasks and priorities
  • A friendly, professional and customer-focused approach
  • Good interpersonal skills and confidence communicating with others
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Basic IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • A reliable and responsible approach to work
  • An interest in business administration and customer service

Qualifications in English and Maths, or equivalent, would be beneficial. Previous customer service or administrative experience gained through part-time work, volunteering or work experience would also be an advantage, but is not essential.

Most importantly, you should enjoy helping people, take pride in producing high-quality work and be keen to develop professionally through the apprenticeship.
