Full Job Description

As an Emergency Care Apprentice, you'll be part of the Health & Social Care Partnership, employed by Fife Council working across Fife. Working 36 hours per week over a variety of shifts predominantly days and evenings and you may want to experience night shifts. All our shifts include study days towards your qualification.

You could be placed in one of two service types, these are:

Adult Services Resources, Accommodation with Care and Support which provides care and support to adults 16+, who have a learning disability, physical disability or mental health condition living in the community.

Alternatively, our Care at Home Service supports people across Fife to live safely and independently in their own homes. A key element of this is MECS - the Mobile Emergency Care Service. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, MECS responds to urgent calls in the community, including falls, personal care, welfare checks, or when someone becomes unwell at home.

MECS staff are trained to assess situations quickly, using specialised equipment, provide reassurance, deliver hands-on support, and escalate concerns to health or social care professionals when needed. Their work is vital in ensuring people receive the right help at the right time.

You will gain real-life experience to learn essential care skills, and you will join a team of experienced professionals who will mentor and support you every step of the way!

We offer a qualification:

You will study the Advanced Certificate for Careers in Care incorporating SVQ 2 Social Services and Healthcare SCQF 6. The course is the benchmark qualification requirement for the role and includes two National Progression Certificates in Communication and Safeguarding, one National Certificate in Dementia studies and incorporates the Academic Study skills framework which underpins the knowledge requirements needed for the SVQ. This course requires attendance at Fife College and is funded by the Scottish Funding Council.

Who Can Apply?

We are seeking people aged 16+ who are enthusiastic, caring, and motivated. You do need to live in Fife to apply. No previous care experience is required - just a positive attitude, willingness to learn and work as part of a team. As a professional you will meet fascinating people that open their lives to you, meaning you can develop relationships that improve both your life and theirs.

You will be part of a large organisation which needs people like you to enable us to build a sustainable, skilled workforce, reflective of the communities we serve, with attractive career choices where all are respected and valued for the work we do.
