Full Job Description

Job purpose: The post holder will be trained to become fully competent in the inspection, servicing and maintenance of Scottish Ambulance Service vehicles and equipment in accordance with DVSA guidelines and Scottish Ambulance Service procedures.

To service and maintain a mixed fleet of Scottish Ambulance service vehicles as directed by the Fleet Maintenance Manager of Chargehand and in accordance with the manufacturers and/or Scottish Ambulance Service schedules.

What will I learn? To assist in carrying out servicing, maintenance and repair work to Scottish Ambulance Service vehicles, National Health Service vehicles and any other vehicles and equipment which requires maintenance.

Assist in carrying out maintenance work within professional accredited standards and Scottish Ambulance Service Quality Guidelines that conform to a specialist technical engineering grade and to recognised industry standards.

To assist in carrying out all necessary mechanical engineering procedures and ensure accurate and timely completion of all necessary documentation related to a job – support and learn how accessing complex technical data is required for in depth problem solving and diagnostic assessment. Including the use of computerised maintenance recording systems.

What qualifications or qualities are required?

  • Ability to use hand tools in a safe manner.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical components.
  • A reasonable level of oral and written communication.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including active listening and interpreting

instruction.

  • Good concentration and analytical skills. Ability to understand, recall

and record relevant information.

  • Ability to work in a time sensitive environment to the highest quality

with competing and changing priorities.

  • Ability to follow procedure and take instruction from others.
  • A reasonable level of fitness to meet the physical nature of the role.

-Ability to travel between college and work locations.
