Full Job Description

You will be reporting to the Community Led Local Development (CLLD) Manager.

Your working pattern is Monday to Friday, 0900 - 1700 hrs. We are happy to talk flexible working, where possible.

The purpose of this role is to include financial and administrative support of the Community Led Local Development team in processing and monitoring grant applicants, claims and payments.

We are looking for a highly organised individual to join us as Assistant Development Officer in the Community Led Local Development team (CLLD). Part of the Enterprise and Economic Growth service, our team is responsible for managing and distributing both the Scottish Government CLLD funding as well as Council community development grants to community organisations across Orkney.

The successful candidate will support the CLLD team by processing grant applications and the payment of claims, ensuring compliance with scheme guidelines. This will require attention to detail and effective communication, both within the team, across departments, and with applicants.

You will have responsibility for developing and maintaining spreadsheets for accurate recording and monitoring of our various funding streams, including monthly reconciliation with the council's financial system.

Familiarity with public sector funding will be crucial to this role, therefore we ask that applicants have experience with grant-assisted projects.

The successful candidate will also provide team administrative support to the CLLD Team and the Local Action Group that oversees CLLD strategy and funding, such as minute-taking and other financial processes.

The necessary qualification, experience and skills required for this role are detailed in the 'must have' section of the attached job profile. These criteria are used for decisions on shortlisting and appointment of applicants.

This post requires a Level 1 Disclosure check.

Forget images of remote islands - Orkney is well served by superb modern transport links. Forget the idea of a few people in the middle of no-where - Orkney is home to over 20,000 people. Orkney may bring to mind certain images, but the chances are they are, to say the least, a little off the mark. Sure, we're a bit off the beaten track, but the needs of our community are just the same as anywhere else. And, as a result, the opportunities we can offer you are comparable with those you'll find elsewhere. Of course, there are a few differences: for starters Orkney consists of 100,000 hectares spread over 70+ small islands (19 of which are inhabited), so, like our service users, you'll need to make the most of the transportation links which are vital to Orkney's social and economic well-being. Orkney Islands Council may be the smallest local authority in Scotland, but we can offer some big challenges. And big opportunities. This could be your big chance to make the move, and make a difference. OIC has an impact on many aspects of everyday life. With around 1,800 staff, we are also the county’s biggest employer.
