Full Job Description
An established and highly regarded residential developer is looking to appoint an Assistant Engineer to join its technical team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Civil Engineering graduate or early-career Engineer looking to develop their career within the housebuilding sector. Working alongside experienced Engineers and wider project teams, you’ll gain exposure to the full development lifecycle - from initial land appraisal and technical due diligence through design, construction and final adoption.
The Role
You’ll support the technical delivery of residential developments, working closely with engineering consultants, internal departments, utility providers, local authorities and other statutory bodies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting technical reviews and due diligence on potential development sites.
- Assisting with site investigations, topographical surveys and other technical reports.
- Supporting external engineering consultants with design development and coordination.
- Assisting with Road Construction Consent (RCC) and Scottish Water Technical Approval submissions.
- Supporting planning applications and building warrant submissions.
- Assisting with the development and review of roads, drainage and infrastructure designs.
- Monitoring compliance with planning conditions, technical approvals and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting value engineering exercises to identify practical and cost-effective solutions.
- Coordinating technical information between consultants, utility providers and internal teams.
- Assisting with utility designs and applications covering gas, electricity, water, telecoms and street lighting.
- Helping manage technical risks associated with ground conditions, drainage and infrastructure constraints.
- Attending project meetings and site visits to develop your understanding of the construction process.
- Supporting the adoption and vesting process with local authorities and statutory bodies.
- Working closely with Commercial, Construction and Sales teams to support efficient project delivery.
About You
Ideally, you will have:
- A Degree, HND or HNC in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Previous experience within housebuilding or an engineering consultancy would be advantageous, although candidates at an earlier stage of their career will also be considered.
- A good understanding of civil engineering principles and construction techniques.
- Some knowledge of roads, drainage, planning and utility infrastructure.
- Awareness of CDM regulations and Health & Safety requirements.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving ability.
- A proactive attitude and genuine willingness to learn and develop.
- The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar engineering software would be beneficial.
- A full UK driving licence is preferred.
The Opportunity
This is a strong opportunity to join an established residential developer offering excellent exposure across the technical and engineering aspects of housebuilding.
You’ll work alongside experienced professionals on live residential developments, providing a solid platform to build your technical knowledge and progress your career within the industry.
