The Finance Directorate is responsible for approximately £900M of income and expenditure annually, represented by in excess of 200,000 transactions annually, with around 8,500 staff and students having access to our Finance systems to initiate, review and approve financial transactions and reports.


As part of wider changes to enhance the Directorate’s focus on business partnering, this role provides accounting support to the Finance Business Partner - Estates who is responsible for the financial management of the Estates revenue and capital budgets, in line with the University’s overall financial strategy. The University has an ambitious capital programme which has seen an investment of over £180 million over the past 5 years and a forecast for a further £300 million by 2030.


The role will support the provision of management information for both strategic and operational purposes, including supporting financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, risk analysis and business plan appraisal. The post holder will work under the direction of Finance Business Partner - Estates, and in conjunction with Estates Services staff. The post holder will help provide information on financial planning to Estates Services key decision making bodies and provide input to the management of the University’s financial resources. This role provides the opportunity to play a key part in shaping the estates strategy and to support delivery to the level of quality required to meet Strathclyde’s ambitions as a leading international technological University seeking to provide high quality teaching and research, and to provide an outstanding student and staff experience.


You should ideally be newly or recently qualified with a recognised body such as ICAS, CIMA, ACCA or CIPFA. Part qualified or unqualified candidates seeking a qualification but at an earlier stage, with a particularly strong financial background and knowledge of accounting principles may also be considered with any subsequent appointment being made initially at Grade 6. Support towards completion of a qualification will be provided. Knowledge of the Higher Education sector would be desirable but is not essential. Enthusiasm, commitment, and strong collaborative interpersonal skills coupled with a high level of problem-solving and decision making will make the role a success.
