This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in sales and business development within the IT, digital and business skills training sector while gaining practical experience and developing valuable professional skills.
As an integral part of our business development team, you will help identify new business opportunities, build relationships with employers across Scotland and support organisations with their training and workforce development needs, including IT, technology, digital and business skills.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Researching prospective customers and identifying new business opportunities.
- Supporting lead generation, sales prospecting and employer engagement activities.
- Communicating with prospective and existing customers through calls, emails and virtual meetings.
- Using CRM software to manage customer information, track sales opportunities and maintain accurate records.
- Using digital applications, spreadsheets and reporting tools to organise information, monitor activity and support business development decisions.
- Preparing digital presentations, proposals and other customer communications.
- Supporting the team in improving digital processes and making effective use of business software.
- Working closely with colleagues across different departments to support customer relationships and business growth.
The successful candidate will receive ongoing training, guidance and support throughout their apprenticeship, with opportunities to develop their skills, take on greater responsibility and progress within the business. As part of the role, you will also undertake a Modern Apprenticeship in Digital Application Support at SCQF Level 6, gaining a nationally recognised qualification alongside valuable workplace experience.
What will I learn? Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop a combination of sales, business development and digital skills that will provide a strong foundation for your future career.
These include:
- Sales and business development, including prospecting, lead generation and identifying new opportunities.
- Building and maintaining professional relationships with customers and employers.
- Developing confidence in telephone conversations, customer meetings and presenting information.
- Gaining an understanding of IT, technology, digital and business skills training and how these support organisations.
- Using CRM systems and digital applications to manage customer information, sales activity and business processes.
- Developing practical skills in Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Word, Power
Point, Outlook and Teams.
- Organising, analysing and presenting business information using spreadsheets and digital reporting tools.
- Using digital communication and collaborative technologies effectively in a professional environment.
- Developing problem-solving, time management, teamwork and organisational skills.
What qualifications or qualities are required? Previous sales or business development experience is not essential. We are looking for someone who is confident, self-motivated and enthusiastic about developing a successful career in business development.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Confidence and strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with people both virtually and in person.
- A self-motivated attitude, with the drive and initiative to identify and pursue new opportunities.
- A goal-driven mindset, with the ambition to achieve targets and continually improve.
- A genuine interest in sales, business development and the IT, digital and business skills sector.
- A positive, enthusiastic approach and an enjoyment of working as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage different tasks.
- An interest in technology and a willingness to develop skills in digital applications and business software.
- The ability to take initiative, work independently and contribute positively to a wider team.
- A willingness to learn, accept feedback and develop new skills.
No specific formal qualifications are required, although good literacy, numeracy and basic IT skills would be beneficial.
Above all, we are looking for someone with the right attitude, ambition and willingness to learn. If you are motivated, enjoy working with people and are keen to build a career in business development, we would encourage you to apply.
