Job Description

Master your craft and learn to use it all over the world. As a full-time soldier, entry-level Carpenter in the British Army, you'll:

• Plan carpentry and joinery tasks from sketches and apply them in the field


• Learn to use and maintain workshop machinery


• Prepare timber for use, manufacture joints, use adhesives, produce windows, door frames and fitments


• Carry out general construction work including first-fix timber frames and second-fix joinery fitments


• Construct scaffolding, interpret scaffold terms and erect access scaffolds and install ladders


• Install partitions, floors, roofing, timber-framed buildings, formwork and shoring


• Study for carpentry qualifications (including Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Carpentry and Joining (Military Engineering) and Level 2 apprenticeship)

Qualifications

• Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months


• Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language and one other subject


• Be able to pass a basic fitness test

• Initial military training to learn how to be a soldier (basic military training for Junior Soldiers, adult basic training for Regular Soldiers)

You dont need to know how to do the job before you get here, because well give you all the training you need. Step 1 is your initial military training teaching you how to be a soldier which will be basic military training if youre a Junior Soldier and adult basic training if youre a Regular Soldier.
