CHIEF OFFICER

For service onboard their two Aid to Navigation maintenance and support vessels on a fixed manning rota – 28 days duty followed by 28 days leave.

About Us 

The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786. 

The Role – Overview

As Chief Officer you will report to the Master for the day-to-day operations of an NLB Tender, regarding buoy work; boat work; deck maintenance and helicopter operations;on board crew training, PPE issue and restocking; dangerous goods documentation and ISPS. The Chief Officer will deputise for the Master in their absence.

Salary and Benefits

·      £54,994 per year rising to £59,680 per year dependent on skills and experience.

Skills/ Experience Required

·      Master II/2 unlimited is an essential requirement for this role.

·      A valid unrestricted MCA Medical Certificate (ENG 1).

·      You will have first class seamanship, ship-handling and navigation skills together with a detailed working knowledge of statute and regulations.  

·      You will also be able to demonstrate well developed leadership, people management and interpersonal skills.

·      Knowledge of helicopter and crane operations, as well as buoy servicing.

·      Detailed industry knowledge.

·      Customer service.

·      Report writing.

·      Computer skills.

·      Management of budgets.

·      Ability to multi-task.

·      Ability to see and understand the wider picture outside own vessel operations.
