Through our integrated services and dedicated support, providing a safe and stable environment, Kibble helps young people who have complex social, emotional, behavioural and educational needs move forward to lead healthy and fulfilled lives.
Job Purpose:
To support learning and teaching within the classroom setting. To encourage self-discipline in young people through acting as a prompt at changeover times within the school timetable and in moving from residential/day unit to class.
Main Duties:
- To report to their assigned Service at 8.30am and report to the senior member of staff on duty.
- To support young people through their morning routine, including basic hygiene and breakfasting.
- To accompany young people to and from school.
- To help young people meet their targets in the learning and teaching setting through:
- Explaining teacher directions to young people
- Promoting positive behaviour
- Helping pupils with learning difficulties
- Supporting individual pupils through one to one attention
- To take part in lunchtime activities with young people.
- To advise and support pupils through the continuum of education including where appropriate re-integration programmes.
- To provide support in a close proximity setting for young people experiencing difficulties such that would necessitate their removal from class.
- To advocate for young people where necessary.
- To report to a Looked After Review or Review of a young person where appropriate.
- To liaise closely with residential care workers and teachers with regards to up to date information on pupil behaviour, attitude and progress.
- To provide input in relevant reports on a day to day basis.
- To provide a safe environment for all young people and staff by being vigilant at all times, complying with Health and Safety guidelines, and maintaining appropriate checks on young people and the school/unit environment.
- Any other reasonable duties as directed by your designated unit manager, promoted members of the Education staff team or a class teacher, which falls within your contractual remit.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Qualified to HNC Level and SVQ level 3 in a relevant subject
- Ability to interact in an appropriate manner with young people who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
- Inter-personal skills: including ability to liaise, approach and converse with colleagues across a range of subjects
- Patience
- A sense of humour
