Summary

Clerk of Works (Transport Contract & Design)

Waverley Court

Salary: £34,452 - £40,501

Hours: 36 per week

An opportunity has arisen within Roads & Infrastructure for the permanent post of Clerk of Works. This post is nominally based at the Council's Headquarters, Waverley Court, but generally this is a site-based post.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to undertake this challenging but highly rewarding role. You will be part of a team managing and co-ordinating the on-site works associated with Edinburgh's roads and footways renewal program. This is an excellent platform to develop your career within a design and construction environment.

Our carbon-conscious approach to project delivery allows innovative individuals to flourish and the successful candidate will be encouraged to influence the future direction of their work, whilst operating in this site based role.

We are looking for the successful candidate to have:

  • Experience of supervising and overseeing the construction of civil engineering projects ensuring the agreed specifications are met in full and the required quality standards are consistently achieved;
  • Experience of inspecting roads and footways to assess their condition and safety, including identification of remedial works as required, reporting on standards of workmanship and compliance with national and local standards;
  • Experience in the management of projects, fostering working relationships with contractors to ensure delivery, whilst maintaining excellent value for the Council;
  • Experience to ensure that all work is carried out with due regard for public safety and traffic/pedestrian management requirements, utilising a working knowledge of Chapter 8 (Traffic Signs Manual) and the Red Book;
  • A knowledge of health and safety legislation in relation to road construction and maintenance.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best. We particularly encourage applications from women for senior roles, as well as people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, care experienced people, carers and LGBT+ people across all levels of the organisation, all of whom are currently underrepresented. All applicants will be considered fairly based on skills and experience. Disabled and care-experienced applicants who meet the minimum job criteria will be guaranteed an interview.
